This photo was taken at the Kismayo Airport which is in southern Somalia. We convoyed down there to do patrols in that area. The drive down from Baledogle was about 14+ hours. I did it multiple times without having anyone else drive and it is one of the major reasons I earned a driver’s badge which is a rare award for an Infantryman to earn.
On the way down the convoy briefly stopped at the equator so that we could all take note of the zero on our GPS’s.

While changing a tire on my HUMVEE in Kismayo I met Clint Black. At the time I didn’t even know who he was but he was a nice enough guy.
